I would like to extend my appreciation and gratitude to each one of you for your continued support.
It is an honor for me to be elected to serve our beloved ADS community as the President of the Houston chapter for almost two years . I am blessed with a homogeneous, hard working team of board members, eager to work diligently in order to achieve our goals.
The ADS Houston Chapter has been hard at work to accomplish its goals of bringing the community together and enhancing its livelihood. We have observed Eid El-Adha on December 15th, 2007 with a religiously educational lecture and commemorated the Eid with an annual celebration held at the Sheraton Suites the following day. We also celebrated with friends and families the welcoming of the new year at our 6th Annual New Year Eve Party that took place at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel on December 31st, 2007 . Two free picnics where held last year, community members and friends where invited to join us. I am glad to report our success at bringing everyone closer together.
The board has been working tirelessly to develop new programs aimed at helping our community grow and evolve. Among them is the Scholarship Program that is designed to aid our college students reach their educational goals in spite of the financial challenges that may face them. The Benefit that was lunched May 5th 2007 at the Sheraton Suites, is the foundation that the program will build on. Candidates have been applying and the first awardee will be announced at our 2nd Annual Scholarship Benefit that will be held at The Sheraton Suites on April 12th, 2008. We hope that we can count on your generosity again for the Scholarship Fund in order to build a solid foundation for future generations.
In 2007 the ADS Houston Chapter matched the funds raised by The Helping Hands to a total sum of 5,000 USD. This amount was sent to Ain WaZein Hospital Elderly Care Center to be used for the benefit of the elderly residents at the hospital. In 2008 we will also be working with the Helping Hands to help support another charitable Druze organization overseas.
The ADS Houston Community will be hosting The American Druze Society 2008 Regional Convention from November 26 to November 30 2008. All the net proceeds from this convention will be the seed needed to launch the ADS Houston Druze Center Fund.
Other programs are also in the works and are soon to be realized, including the purchase of burial lots, teaching Arabic to community kids and an assistance program for Druze arriving from abroad. The ultimate goal is to acquire an ADS Houston Druze Center.
We have faith, great hope, and unconditional love for the children of our community. We shall strive towards successful programs that will align us more closely with excellence.
Thanks to your loyal support, dedication and generosity the ADS Houston chapter will continue to move forward in fulfilling its mission. You are an integral part of our community and we are ready to support you in your endeavors. Please keep us in your mind and in your heart.
