In 2007, we have observed Eid El-Adha on December 15th, 2007 with a religiously educational lecture and commemorated the Eid with an annual celebration held at the Sheraton Suites the following day. We also celebrated with friends and families the welcoming of the New Year at our 6th Annual New Year Eve Party that took place at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel on December 31st, 2007. Several picnics were held, community members and friends were invited. Thanks to your continued support the ADS Houston were able to sponsor all the picnics held.
We hosted The American Druze Society 2008 Thanksgiving Convention that was held from November 26 to November 30 2008 at the J.W Marriot Houston, the net proceeds from this convention was the seed needed to launch the ADS Houston Druze Center Fund and the establishment of the ADS Houston Exhibit that will preserve the history and heritage of our unique culture.
November 6 - 8 of 2009 we had our first ADS Family Weekend Campout
and on Sunday the 29th we celebrated 2009 Eid El-Adha at the Sheraton Suites with a fabulous Brunch.
The board has been working tirelessly to develop new programs aimed at helping our community grow and evolve. Among them is The ADS Houston Chapter Scholarship Program , established in 2007, that is designed to aid our under graduate college students reach their educational goals in spite of the financial challenges that may face them. The Benefit that was held May 5th 2007 at the Sheraton Suites was the foundation that the program is building on. Candidates have been applying and the first awardee was announced at our 2nd Annual Scholarship Benefit that was held at The Sheraton Suites on April 12th, 2008. A 3rd Annual Scholarship Benefit will be held on March 27th 2010, where we will honor our dear friends and supporters Mr.& Mrs Nijad I. Fares. So far, the ADS Houston Chapter Scholarship Program has awarded nine scholarships at $ 1500 each. We hope that we can count on your generosity again for the Scholarship Fund in order to continue and enhance the program.
The ADS Houston Chapter, continues to perform charitable and civic programs for the betterment of the home, family, and community relations. For example, the Chapter has contributed assistance to Hurricane Katrina evacuees in 2006, supported families affected by the California fires during the Summer of 2007, and funded medical costs and assistance for needy families. The organization also supports fundraising efforts of other non-profit organizations such as
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital program.
We have been matching funds that were raised to help and support many charitable organizations, both nationwide and abroad. In 2007 the ADS Houston Chapter matched the funds raised by The Helping Hands to a total sum of 5,000 USD. This amount was sent to Ain WaZein Hospital Elderly Care Center to be used for the benefit of the elderly residents at the hospital.
I proudly would like to summarize the achievements that we accomplished due to a great team and of course all of this because of your generous support.
- Scholarship Program Fund
- ADS Houston Center Fund
- ADS Houston Exhibit Fund
- Emergency Relief Fund
Other programs are also in the works and are soon to be realized, including the purchase of burial lots, teaching Arabic to community kids and an assistance program for Druze arriving from abroad. The ultimate goal is to acquire an ADS Houston Druze Center.
I am glad to report our success at bringing everyone closer together.
We have faith, great hope, and unconditional love for the children of our community. We shall strive towards successful programs that will align us more closely with excellence.
Thanks to your loyal support, dedication and generosity the ADS Houston chapter will continue to move forward in fulfilling its mission. You are an integral part of our community and we are ready to support you in your endeavors. Please keep us in your mind and in your heart.
